RIM and F-QIP Identifiers
RIMsandF‐QIPscanbeinstalledinanycontrollerbayinthemain frameor
driveexpansionframes.ThecomponentidentifierforaRIMorF‐QIPis
basedonitslocationrelativetotheframeandtheDBAwhereitisinstalled.
ThecomponentidentifierforaRIMorF‐QIPisshownas
FRx/DBAx/F-QIPn,where:
FRxisthenumberoftheframefromlefttorightwhenview edfromthe
frontofthelibrary.
DBAxisthenumberoftheDBAwheretheRIMorF‐QIPisinstalled(see
Figure29onpage64).Themainframeandeachdriveexpansionframe
accommodatesuptosixDBAs.
F-QIPnistheinterfacetype(FibreChannel)oftheRIMorQIPandthe
numberofthecontrollerbaywhereitisinstalled.BecauseeachDBA
containsonlyonecontrollerbay,nisalways1.
Note: ThecomponentidentifierforaRIMshowsitasanF‐QIP.For
example,Figure30showsthecomponentidentifierfortheRIM
installedinDBA1inFrame2(FR2/DBA1/F‐QIP1)onthe
Controllersscreen.Thedevicedescriptor (2‐GbpsFCRIM)
indicatesthatthecontroller isaRIM.
Drive Identifiers
Thefirmwareinthedrivesledthathouseseachdriveassignsanidentifier
tothedrivebasedonitslocationinthelibrary.Thisidentifierisshownin
theBlueScaleuserinterfaceandisusedintheXMLcommandinterface.
TheidentifierisalsousedtogeneratetheWorldWideName(WWN)that
thelibraryreportsforthedrive(seeWorldWideNamesforFibreChannel
Drivesonpage73).Becausetheidentifierislocation‐based,itremains
constantevenifthephysicaldriveisreplacedbyanewdrive.Thenew
driveassumesthelocation‐basedidentifier.
