Barcode Reporting Mismatch Errors Unexpectedbehaviorcanoccurifthe
library’sbarcodereportingconfigurationdoesnotmatchthetypeof
barcodelabelsthatarebeingusedandwhatthestoragemanagement
softwareexpects.Themostcommonproblemsthatoccurare:
Thelibraryisconfiguredtoexpectachecksumcharacterinbarcodes,
butthebarcodelabelsdonothaveachecksumcharacter.Inthiscase,
thebarcodereportedbythelibraryis“missing”theright‐most
character.Thisisbecausethelibrarytreatsthelastcharacterinthe
barcodeasachecksumcharacter,whichitdoesnotreport,whenthe
characterisactuallypartofthebarcode.
Thelibraryisconfiguredtousebarcodelabelsthatdonotincludea
checksum,butthebarcodelabelsincludeachecksumcharacter.Inthis
case,thelibrarytreatsthechecksumcharacteraspartofthebarcode
andthereforereportsaseeminglyrandom“garbage”characterasthe
lastcharacterofthebarcode.
Thelibraryisconfiguredtousebarcodesthatincludeachecksumand
performchecksumverification,butthebarcodelabelsdonothavea
checksumcharacter.Inthiscase,thelibraryreportsaverificationerror
oneverybarcodelabelbecausethecharacteritisusingtoperformthe
checksumverificationisnotachecksumcharacter.

Changing the Library’s Default Barcode Reporting
Configuration
Note: Ifyouareunsurewhetheryourlabelsincludeachecksum
character,see
DeterminingtheBarcodeLabelTypeonpage137.
Ifnecessary,usethefollowingstepstochangethelibrary’sdefaultbarcode
reportingconfigurationtodisabletheuseofchecksumcharacters,enable
ordisabletheverificationofthechecksumcharacter,ormodifywhat
portionoftheactualbarcodeisreportedtothehost.
1. Logintothelibraryasauserwithsuperuseroradministrator
privileges.
2. Fromthetoolbarmenu,select Maintenance > Tools.TheMaintenance
Toolsscreendisplays.
3. SelectUtilities.TheUtilitiesscreendisplays.
After the utility completes, the LCM reboots. After the library completes its
initialization, it rescans the barcode labels of all media in the library. This rescan
takes up to 45 minutes per frame to complete.
