Component Description
LED Light Bars TheLEDlightbars,mountedatthetopofthemainframeandeachexpansion
frame,illuminatetheinteriorofthelibrary.

Transporter ThetransporterandtheVerticalAxis(VAX)columnmakeuptheroboticsused
tomoveaTeraPackmagazinefromonelocationtoanotherinthelibrary.
Thetransporter,whichismountedontheVAXcolumn,retrievesthemagazine
fromthesourcechamberandholdsitwhiletheVAXcolumnmovesto
its
destination.Thecartridgepickerthenremove s therequestedindividual
cartridgefromthemagazineandinsertsitintoadrive.Whenthedriveis
finishedusingthecartridgeandejectsit,thecartridgepickerretrievesthe
cartridgeandplacesitinamagazine.TheVAXcolumnthenmovesthe
transporter
toreturnthemagazinetoastoragechamber.
TheVAXcolumnmovesalongthehorizontalaxis(HAX)andthetransporter
movesupanddowntheVAXcolumntoperformallmediamovementwithin
thelibrary.Thebarcodereadermountedonthecartridgepickerreadsthe
barcodelabelsonTeraPackmagazinesand
individualcartridges.Thelibrary
usesthebarcodelabelinformationtomaintainaninventoryofthemedia
currentlystoredinsidethelibrary.
Media Storage AllofthemediainthelibraryisstoredinTeraPackmagazines,eachofwhich
containstenslotsforLTOmediaornineslotsforTS11x0technologymedia.The
magazinesareplacedinTBAsoronshelves,whicharedividedintochambers.
EachchamberprovidesstorageforoneTeraPackmagazine.
The
numberofslotsinaframedependsonthetypeandconfigurationofthe
frame(seeDriveandMediaFramesonpage61).Theframesallhavemedia
storagechambersatboththefrontandtherearoftheframe.Themaximum
mediastoragecapacityofthelibrarydependson
thetypeofmedia,thenumber
ofdrivesinstalled,andthenumberofdriveandmediaexpansionframes
installed(seeDataStorageCapacityonpage533).
