Jobsite Assessment
Examine the jobsite for any obstructions, conditions, or situations which may impair machine
operation or create a safety hazard for the operator or other persons, such as:
•Holes, drop-offs, banks, trenches, light or power poles, steep slopes
•Overhead obstacles
•Overhead power lines
•Other machines, workers, or bystanders
•Dust, combustible fumes, inadequate ventilation
Use information in this manual combined with your own good judgment when identifying these
hazard avoidance measures.
WARNING
Breathing crystalline silica dust may cause lung disease. Cutting, drilling,
or working materials such as concrete, sand, or rock containing quartz
may result in exposure to silica dust.
Use dust control methods or appropriate respiratory protection when
exposed to silica dust conditions.
Engine exhaust can asphyxiate. If inhaled directly or continuously, the
combustion fumes produced by the engine can cause death or serious
injury.
If work has to be done in an enclosed environment, take all necessary
precautions to ensure the circulation of fresh air and protect the
respiratory system using a suitable mask.
DANGER
Electric shock possible. Death or serious injury will result from
inadequate clearance or contact with an energized power line.
Stay away from an energized power line. Maintain a clearance of at least
10 ft (3 m) between machine components, including the operator, and any
electrical line carrying up to 50,000 volts (50 kv). Add one additional foot
of clearance for every additional 30,000 volts (30 kv) or less. Allow for
power line sway.
Ground personnel must stay away as machine approaches or is near an
energized power line.
Electric utility provider must de-energize power lines before approaching.
