Towing/Retrieving Machine
TOWING/RETRIEVING MACHINE
If towing a machine that has been disabled, use the following instructions for emergency situations
only.
Use a towing machine with sufficient power, weight, and braking capacity to maintain control of
the disabled machine. The towing machine should be at least as large as the disabled machine.
If retrieving on a downhill grade, use a second machine on the opposite end of the disabled
machine to prevent the disabled machine from overrunning the towing machine.
Provide barriers to prevent injury to machine operator if tow device fails. Keep anyone on the
ground at least two times the length of the tow device away.
Tow device (chain, cable, or strap) must have a minimum working load of 150% of towing
machine weight.
Never try to jerk the disabled machine in order to get the machine to move. Sudden overload may
cause tow device failure.
Never tow a disabled machine farther than is required to locate the machine out of traffic and to
where repairs can be performed safely.
1. Securely chock front and rear wheels to prevent
machine from moving.
2. Bypass ground drive pumps by adjusting the two
multifunction cartridge valves (1) on each ground drive
pump.
3. Hold cartridge (2) with a 1-1/4” wrench. Open bypass
valves (3) using a 1-1/16” wrench. Turn both valves out
3 turns CCW on each pump.
WARNING
Machine will freewheel with the ground drive pump bypassed or brakes
released. Death or serious injury possible if struck, crushed, or runover by
machine.
Securely chock wheels to keep machine from moving before bypassing
ground drive pump or releasing park brake. Keep others away.
