Software and data security
Unauthorized system access and data loss
External storage devices can transmit computer malware, which may be used to gain unauthorized access to
data or cause unwanted changes to software. The system is not protected against malicious software and hacker
attacks.
The operators are responsible for the IT security of their IT infrastructure and for protecting it against malicious
software and hacker attacks. Failure to do so may result in data loss or may render the system unusable.
Roche recommends the following precautions:
c Allow physical access only to authorized personnel.
c Allow connection only to authorized external devices.
c Protect all external devices, make sure that you use appropriate security software.
c Protect access to all external devices, make sure that you use appropriate security equipment.
c As the Product is not intended to be used within networks without an appropriate firewall and has not been
designed for such use, Roche assumes no liability in that regard. Your Roche representative can recommend
a suitable firewall.
c In the event the user connects the product with any network without using a Roche firewall, Roche cannot
offer any product support regarding any problem resulting from such network connection.
c Do not copy or install any software on the system unless required by your Roche representative.
c Exercise care when you use external storage devices such as USB drives or DVDs.
c Do not connect to the system any external storage device that you use on public or home computers.
c Keep all external storage devices in a secure place, and make sure that only authorized personnel can access
them.
c Back up your data regularly.
Backup security
Roche recommends the following precautions:
c Only use virus free external storage devices for backup purposes.
c Transmit backup data to external storage devices via secure networks only.
c Keep external storage devices that hold backup data in secure locations with strictly regulated access only.
Software installed on the Control Unit
Correct operation of the Analyzer and Software can only be guaranteed if no other Software has been installed
on the computer.
c The Cedex HiRes Software should only be installed on the Control Unit and Windows Image version
provided by Roche specifically for the Cedex HiRes Analyzer. Installations on other hardware will not be
supported. For more details, please contact your local Roche Service representative.
Unreliable operation due to unauthorized changes to the validation settings
The manufacturer shall not be held liable for any consequences resulting from subsequent, unauthorized
modifications to the validation settings.
