Realtime recording using the KARMA
function (single-track recording)
Inthefollowingexample,wellusetheKARMA
functiontorecordadrumpatternontrack1.
1. Selectthedesireddrumprogramfortrack1as
describedintheprocedureforrealtimerecording
atrackandforpreparingtorecord(seep.91).
Alsomakeanyothernecessarysettingsfor
recording,suchas
setting“TrackSelect”toT01.
2. AccesstheSequencerP7:KARMA–GESetup/Key
Zonespage.
MakeMIDII/OsettingsfortheKARMAmodulesso
thatKARMAmoduleAwillplaytrack1(See
“KARMAfunctionsettingsinCombinationmode”
onpage 210).
ForKARMAmoduleA,setthe“InputChannel”
and“OutputChannel”to
01and01respectively.
SettingthemtoTchandTchwillhavethesame
result.Formoreinformation,see“7–1c:MIDII/O”
onpage 431oftheParameterGuide.
AsspecifiedbytheMIDItrack’sMIDIChannel
settingandtheKARMAmodule’sOutChannel
setting,theMIDItrackplayedbytheKARMA
moduleisdisplayedinred.
3. SelectaGEforKARMAmoduleA,andsetits
parameters.
YouarefreetoselectaGEandmakesettingsas
desired,butinthisexamplewe’llusethe“Copy
KARMAModule”pagemenucommandtocopyallof
theprogram’sKARMAfunctionsettings.Thisisan
easywaytosetupandrecordthephraseorpattern
thattheprogram’sKARMAfunctionisgenerating.
1. Usethepagemenubuttonlocatedinthetopleftof
thescreentodisplaythepagemenu,andchoose
“CopyKARMAModule.”
Specifythecopysourceprogram.Turnon(check)
“GE
RTPControlSettings&Scenes”and“Perf.RTP
&PanelSettings.”PressOKtoexecutethecopy.
ThesettingsoftheKARMAREALTIME
CONTROLSsliders,switches,andsceneswillbe
copiedtoModuleControlA.
2. PresstheKARMAON/OFFswitchtoturnonthe
KARMAfunction.
Whenyouplaythekeyboard,the
KARMAfunction
willgenerateadrumpatternjustasitdidforthe
program.
3. UsetheSEQUENCERREC/WRITEswitchandthe
START/STOPswitchtorealtimerecordontrack1.

YoucanoperatetheKARMAREALTIME
CONTROLSsliders/switchesandtheSCENE
switcheswhilerecording,
andthechangesinthe
patternorsoundthatoccurwillberecordedjustas
theyoccur.
ThesongtempoandtheKARMAfunctiontempo
cannotbesetindependently.
4. IfyouwanttheKARMAmoduletobein
synchronizationwiththesequencerduring
recording,checkthe“QuantizeTrigger option.
