Use Syslog
TheBlueScaleSyslogfeaturesendsallsystemmessagesloggedbythe
librarytoapreviouslyconfiguredSyslogserver.Syslogisastandardfor
forwardinglogmessagesoveranInternetProtocol(IP)computernetwork.
Itprovidesseparationofthesoftwarethatgenerateslogmessagesfromthe
systemthatstoresthemessages.
EachsystemmessagethelibrarysendstotheSyslogservercontainsthe
originalsystemmessagepostedbythelibraryandtheremedyinformation
associatedwiththesystemmessage.
SeeSyslogServerIPAddressonpage114forinformationaboutentering
theIPaddressoftheSyslogserver.EnteringavalidIPaddressenablesthe
Syslogfeature.
Whenenabled,theBlueScaleSyslogfeatureautomaticallysendsallsystem
messagespostedbythelibrarytoasingle,previouslyconfiguredSyslog
server.ThelibrarytransmitsthemessagestotheSyslogserverusingthe
format:

PP IndicatestheIDnumberoftheprocessthat wasbeing
performedbythe
library’sBlueScalesoftwarewhenthesystemmessagewasposted.ThisID
numberisforinternaluseonly.
messagenumber IndicatestheorderinwhichtheSyslogserverreceivedthemessages.Thecounter
incrementsea chtimeamessageisreceived,beginningatzero.Thecountercanbe
usedtodeterminewhetherallmessagesarearrivingattheSysl ogserver.
messagetext Showstheactualmessagepostedbythelibrary.Eachsystemmessagepostedby
thelibrarygeneratestwoSyslogmessages;oneforthemessagetextandonefor
theremedytext.Thetwomessageshavethesamemessagenumber,whichis
included
atthebeginningofthemessage.
