Preparation Beforemakingchangestoanexistingpartition,reviewthe
informationatthebeginningofthischaptertobesurethatyouaddress
anyrequirements(seePartitionTypesandRequirementsonpage182).In
addition,addressthefollowingrecommendationsandrequirements:
SpectraLogicstronglyrecommendsbackingupthelibrary
configuration,eithertoaUSBdeviceorasanattachmenttoanemail
senttoapreviouslyconfiguredmailrecipient,beforeyoumake
changes.
Whenreducingthenumberofchambersassignedtoapartition,
physicallyexportanymagazinesinthosechambers,asdescribedin
ExportingorExchangingMagazinesandCartridgesonpage237,before
youremovechambersfromthepartition.
Auto Configuration Save Whenyoumakeachangetoapartition,the
librarygeneratesanauto‐configurationfileandsavesittothememory
cardintheLCM.IfyouconfiguredtheemailoptionfortheAuto
ConfigurationSavefile,anemailcontainingtheupdatedlibrary
configuration,theMLMandDLMdatabases,andanyBlueScale
encryptionkeysstoredinthelibrary,aresenttothespecifiedrecipient(see
EnableEmailfortheAutoConfigurationSaveFileonpage120).

recipient.SpectraLogicdoesnotsaveemailedconfigurationfiles
unlesstheyarespecificallyrequestedfortroubleshooting.
Modify a Partition Usethefollowingstepstomodifyanexistingpartition.
Notes: Youcannotmodifyapartitiontochangetheexporterfroma
QIP/RIMtoadrive.
Youcannotchangethemediatype(andthusthedrivetype)
specifiedforthepartition.
1. Logintothelibraryasauserwithsuperuseroradministrator
privileges.
2. SelectMaintenance > MLMtodisplaytheMediaLifecycle
ManagementToolsscreen.IfMediaAutoDiscovery,PreScan,or
PostScanisrunning(asindicatedbythepresenceofaStop Discoveryor
Pause PostScanbutton,respectively),dothefollowing:
ClickStop DiscoverytotemporarilystopMediaAutoDiscoveryor
PreScan(see
Figure181onpage298).
ClickPause PostScantopausethePostScanforonehour(see
Figure184onpage307).
By default, the library deletes empty chambers from a partition first. However, if all of
the chambers are full, the library is forced to delete populated chambers. When this
happens, the magazines in the deleted chambers are no longer accessible through
the BlueScale or storage management software. You must add the chambers to either
a new or an existing partition before the magazines can be accessed again.
