Maintenance Procedures
4. Remove black negative (-) cable (2), then red
positive (+) cable (3) from each battery.
5. Inspect battery cables and replace if damaged.
6. When performing the following:
•Checking electrolyte levels, refer to
"Battery
Electrolyte Level - Check/Fill", page 5-12.
•Charging batteries, refer to
"Batteries - Charge",
page
5-13.
•Replacing batteries, refer to
"Batteries - Replace",
page
5-13.
7. Clean terminals and clamps with a stiff wire brush. Apply a light coating of petroleum jelly
around the base of each terminal.
8. If crossover cable (4) was removed, install crossover cable. Install red positive (+) cable (3), then
black negative (-) cable (2) to battery terminals.
9. Spray terminals with a battery terminal sealer.
10. Install red cover (3) over positive cable clamps and black cover (2) over negative cable clamps.
11. Close battery compartment (1).
12. Turn Battery Ground Disconnect Switch on.
Battery Electrolyte Level - Check/Fill
If battery is “Maintenance Free” it does not require electrolyte level checks.
1. Perform steps 1–5 of
"Batteries - Maintenance", page 5-11.
2. Remove cell caps (1). Use flashlight to check
electrolyte levels.
3. Add distilled water to each cell until plates are
covered.
NOTICE: Maintain proper electrolyte levels.
4. Install cell caps.
