Paving
10. Turn fume extraction fans (6) on.
11. Select Work Low or Work High speed (7).
12. Increase engine speed to high rpm (8).
13. Turn storage and discharge conveyors (9) on. Adjust
speeds with Hopper & Conveyor Speed Dial (10).
The discharge conveyor will operate at full speed for
the first 15 minutes material is moving through the
machine. Hydraulic pressures are monitored and the
variable speed system will activate automatically.
14. Turn elevator (11) on and adjust speed with
Elevator Speed Dial (12).
NOTICE: While windrowing the first 25 to 50 tons (23 to
45 tonnes) of asphalt, adjust machine ground speed to
limit the amount of material moved through the elevator.
This allows steel machine parts to be lubricated and
warmed up to move material more easily through the
machine. Material unloaded too quickly may stall the
elevator and conveyors. If a stall occurs, refer to
"Cleaning or Removing Material", page 3-47.
NOTICE: Do not fill cold hopper with asphalt until
enough hot asphalt has been through the hopper to heat
the hopper and components.
15. Fill paver hopper to near capacity.
16. Adjust material flow to discharge conveyor and
paver hopper using Elevator Speed Dial.
17. After machine is warmed up, adjust elevator and
conveyor speeds to keep paver or paver hopper
insert and storage hopper at least 2/3 full. The best
practice is to set the elevator at a speed that does
not require starting and stopping elevator multiple times.
If equipped, use optional distance from paver control system to maintain optimal propel speed.
Refer to
"Distance From Paver Control System (Optional)", page 3-38 for operating
instructions.
