Setting Up a Modem Connection
Remote Access Services (RAS) is used to connect with Lynx via RS-232 modem,
which is used for your External Modem application.
Setting Up RAS for a Modem Connection
From your PC, Remote Access Services (RAS) is used to connect your PC to a Lynx
that is using a Modem, using an RS-232 connection.
Note If using a wired RS-232 connection (not using a modem), refer to the previ

ous section for instructions appropriate for a Serial connection, starting on
page 169.
Mode
The factory-default Mode setting (serial or modem) for RAS is Serial. This affects the
manner in which Windows will interact with Lynx for its setup. If you change that set

ting, your Windows steps may differ somewhat from the examples given.
Mode options include Serial, Modem, or None.
There is no 'default' operation available; RAS must be configured before this service
will be functional.
Default RAS Parameters for Lynx
Factory defaults set in Lynx are used to establish RAS connections in this section.

The default RAS User Account ID is: user

The default RAS Account password is: password
These Lynx settings may be changed at Lynx Menu | Network | RAS tab | Accounts
section, User Name and Password entries, discussed starting on page 103.

The default System Name for the Lynx, for RAS, is: Lynx
Lynx Name is found at: Lynx Menu | Setup | System | General | Name parameter,
discussed starting on page 123.

To use a modem with the RS-232 connection, you'll have to create a RAS Direct Se

rial Connection Phonebook entry on your Windows PC.

On your Windows PC, right-click on the My Network Places desktop icon
and select Properties. You will see the Network Connections page. You
will create a new connection definition here.
