External Synchronization
External Synchronization allows acquisitions to be operated by another device. The
Lynx MCA may be one of two Master (controlling) or a Slave (controlled) device in
this scenario. Timing and other parameters for this synchronization must be set if this
feature is required.
External Synchronization settings are important for Counters and SCAs setups, as
well as MSS and LIST modes. The External Sync menu page is shown below.
Mode
The acquisition can be operated in Slave mode, or one of two Master modes, and the
acquisition is set using the Mode option. Only one master to one or multiple slaves are
required. Acquisition times are synced to execute at the same time. You must arm the
slave first, then the master.
In Master A mode, the Ext Sync output will be driven by the device. The
Pulse period is determined by the Pulse field.
In Master B mode, the Ext Sync output will be driven by the device. The
Pulse period is fixed at 1 µS.
Slave operation - When the device has been set for Slave, an externally
generated sync pulse is expected at the Ext Sync BNC.
Pulse
Defines the pulse duration of the Master A signal, in milliseconds. A default of 100
milliseconds is set. The master will send out to sync pulse to the systems.
