RS-232 Connections
Connections for RS-232 communications for either a wired connection or using an ex
-
ternal modem uses Remote Access Services (RAS) to establish the connection.
For simplicity in describing the different RS-232 connections in this manual, a wired
RS-232 connection is described as a Serial Connection, and an RS-232 connection
using an external Modem is considered a Modem Connection.
The user, when connected via RS-232 devices will still use IP protocol (via their
browser) when connecting with the Lynx, using Remote Access Services (RAS) for
this control setup.
Setting Up RAS for a Serial Connection
From your PC, Remote Access Services (RAS) is used to connect with Lynx for a
wired RS-232 connection, also called a Serial connection.
Note If using an External Modem with Lynx, refer to the next section, specifically
for the Modem setup, starting on page 178.
Mode
The factory-default Mode setting (serial or modem) for RAS is Serial. This affects the
manner in which Windows will interact with Lynx for its setup. If you change this set-
ting, your Windows steps may differ somewhat from the examples given.
Mode options include Serial, Modem, or None.
Even though it is enabled, there is no 'default' operation available; RAS must be con
-
figured before this service will be functional.
