In order to successfully operate, the Automatic Pole Zero expects the following:
•
The Incoming Count Rate should be between 300cps and 20,000cps with
limited number of piled up events.
•
A significant number of the event amplitudes should be from 30% to 100% of
the full scale amplitude of the spectrum.
Automatic pole-zero adjustment will have an effect on the position of the data within
the spectrum so it is only available when not in Acquire.
Note While the Auto Pole Zero routine is operating, the Start/Stop Acquire con
-
trols are disabled. While in the Acquire mode, the Execute button for the
Auto Pole Zero is disabled.
An automatic pole-zero is initiated by pressing the Execute button. If the Execute but
-
ton is 'grayed out', you must first stop the acquisition in process. The automatic
pole-zero will begin and the status will be reported back as "In progress". The pro
-
cess will continue until it completes or times out, updating the Status report.
If the automatic pole zero completes successfully, then the status will report back as
"Done, Complete". The Value will display the new Pole/Zero setting.
A status of "Input rate too low" indicates that the event data may not meet the rate
or amplitude requirements.
A status of "Done, Timed out" indicates that the automatic pole-zero routine was
unable to complete (zero out) successfully within a three minute timeout period.
If a timeout occurs, it may be due to incorrect count rate, improper signal amplitude or
a poor quality signal (example: significant periodic noise or secondary time constants)
from the preamplifier/detector. You may wish to monitor the filter output with the os
-
cilloscope for further investigation into the cause for a failed result.
BLR Mode
Sets the Baseline Restorer method: AUTO, HARD, MEDIUM, or SOFT.
•
AUTO: The baseline restorer is automatically optimized as a function of
trapezoid shaping time and count rate
•
HARD, MEDIUM, or SOFT:
Sets the baseline restorer to fixed rates as selected
Preamp Type
Selects the Preamplifier type as either TRP (Transistor Reset) or RC (resistive-capaci
-
tive filter). Auto Pole Zero adjustment is disabled if the TRP type is selected.
