158 Upgrade and Maintenance Manual TX2550 M4
Hard disk drive (HDD) / solid state drive (SSD)
7.1 Basic information
The HDD or SSD and the installation frame together make up the HDD module
or SSD module.
The server is shipped with one of the following HDD or SSD subsystems:
– 3.5-inch HDD subsystem:
Up to four, eight or 12 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD modules can be installed.
The HDD module is connected to the HDD backplane wirelessly. This allows
HDD modules to be plugged in or pulled out easily.
Hybrid configurations of SAS and SATA HDD modules are supported in
combination with an optional HDD controller.
In addition two non-hot-plug HDDs/SSDs can be installed.
– 2.5-inch HDD/SSD subsystem:
Up to eight, 16, 24 or 32 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD/SSD modules can be
installed.
The HDD/SSD modules are connected to the HDD backplane wirelessly.
This allows HDD/SSD modules to be plugged in or pulled out easily. If the
server has a corresponding RAID configuration, defective HDD/SSD
modules can also be replaced during operation.
Hybrid configurations of SAS and SATA SSD / BC-SAS and BC-SATA HDD
modules are supported in combination with an optional HDD controller
.
I In the configuration with up to 24 HDD/SSD modules, PCIe SSDs can
be installed in the extension box, see figure 96.
– Up to four PCIe SSDs can be installed, if one PCIe SSD
backplane and one Retimer controller is installed.
– Up to eight PCIe SSDs can be installed, if two PCIe SSD
backplanes and two Retimer controllers are installed.
I For information on RAID controllers controlling the HDD/SSD modules
see chapter "Expansion cards and backup units" on page 291.
