Ultra Purge Settings Panel 213
User Guide v 2.0 — March 2023 Color Change
13.1.1 Ultra Purge Settings Panel
The Ultra Purge Settings panel has the user-configurable settings based on the specific needs
of the process with Ultra Purge recommendations. Table 13-1 gives the descriptions for the
items in the panel.
NOTE: For easy recall and to make sure the specific process is being applied to the correct
mold, the settings in the panel are saved to the mold setup file that is loaded at the
time the color change feature is being configured.
13.1.2 Ultra Purge Sequence Panel
This field shows each step of the color change sequence and requires one of the interactions
that follow to continue to the next step:
• Make a choice (Yes or No)
• Start an action (Start Color Change, Start Soak Timer and Start Purge Booster)
• Confirmation that the current step has been completed
Some steps require you to count injection shots and update the screen with the current shot
or usage amount. This can be done using a cycle input signal (refer to Section 13.2).
The Ultra Purge mode buttons are at the bottom of the panel.
Table 13-1 Ultra Purge Settings Descriptions
Item Description
Machine Connection This enables the cycle input signal used to count injection shots if the
Altanium controller and machine are configured for this connection.
Shot Weight This value defines the shot weight of the part being molded.
Ultra Purge
Conversion Ratio
This value is used to calculate the Ultra Purge usage amount.
Ultra Purge Usage
Amounts
This value is automatically calculated by the controller by multiplying the
shot weight by the conversion ratio.
Maximum Shot Size This value defines the maximum shot size of the machine.
Ultra Purge Soak Time This value defines the amount of time the Ultra Purge compound will soak
once it has filled the hot runner. This is required before loading the new
resin.
Use Purge Booster This enables the purge booster feature. The purge booster reduces the
normal temperature setpoint of the hot runner system to allow a skin to
form in the hot runner that allows better cleaning of carbon deposits for
some thermally sensitive resins.
Purge Booster
Temperature
Decrease
This value defines the temperature to be decremented from the normal
processing setpoint when using the purge booster feature.
Purge Booster Time This value defines the amount of time the purge booster will apply the
lower temperature.
