Pulse rise and fall times
The pulse rise time is the time it takes a pulse to go from 10 percent to 90 percent of the maximum
value of the pulse. Pulse fall time is similar but on the trailing edge of the pulse. Pulse rise and fall
times can vary depending on the following factors:
Cable specifications and connection configuration
Range and pulse settling
Load and operating mode
Limits

Pulse duty cycle
Duty cycle is the percentage of time during the pulse period that the output is on. It is calculated using
the following formula:
Duty cycle = Pulse width / (Pulse width + (Delay + Off time))
For example, if the pulse width is 10 ms and the delay and off time together are 90 ms, the duty cycle
is calculated as follows:
Duty cycle
= 10 ms / (10 ms + 90 ms)
= 10
ms / 100
ms
= 0.10
= 10 percent
Maximum pulse duty cycle for the Model 2461 is 10 percent for the 20 V and lower ranges, and 5
percent for the 100 V range.
