Notice that as resistance increases, the slope of the DUT load increases. As resistance approaches
infinity (open output), the instrument sources virtually 0 mA at 40 V. Conversely, as resistance
decreases, the slope of the DUT load decreases. At zero resistance (shorted output), the instrument
sources 100 mA at virtually 0 V. Regardless of the load, voltage will never exceed the limit of 40 V.
Current limit boundary examples
The actual boundaries where the instrument operates depends on the load (the device under test
(DUT)) that is connected to the output of the instrument.
The following graphs show operation with the instrument set to source of 50 V with a limit of 50 mA.
In this graph, the resistive load is 2 k. The instrument is sourcing 50 V to the 2 k load and
subsequently measures 25 mA. The load for 2 k intersects the 50 V voltage source at 25 mA.
