OPERATION
CAUTION
Never operate engine in a closed building. Proper ventilation is required to avoid exhaust gas hazards.
CAUTION
Remember when working around storage batteries that all of the exposed metal parts are live. Never lay a
metal object across the terminals because a spark and short circuit will result.
1. Clean the windrow
er thoroughly.
2. Store windrower
in a dry protected place.
3. Remove battery.
Refer to Removing Battery, page 266.
4. Bringtofullcha
rge and store in a cool, dry place not subject to freezing.
5. If stored outsi
de, always cover windrowe r with a waterproof tarp au lin or othe r protective material. This will protec t
the switches, i
nstruments, tires, etc. from inclement weather.
6. If no cover is av
ailable; seal air cleaner intake and exhaust pipe with plastic bags and/or waterproof tape.
7. If possible, b
lock up windrower to take weight off tires. If it is not possible to block up the machine, increase tire
pressure by 25
% for storage. Adjust to recommended operating pressure before next use.
8. Repaint all wo
rn or chipped painted surfaces to prevent rust.
9. Lubricate th
e windrower thoroughly, leaving excess grease on fittings to keep moisture out of bearings. Apply
grease to exp
osed threads and sliding surfaces of components.
10. Check for wor
n components and repair. Tighten loose hardware and replace any missing hardware. Refer to
5.2 Torque Sp
ecifications, page 186.
11. Check for br
oken components and order replacements from your Dealer. Attention to these items right away
will save ti
me and effort at beginning of n ext sea so n.
12. Add approve
d rust inhibitor to the engine oil in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Run engine to
operating t
emperature to mix inhibitor with oil, unless otherwise specified.
13. To p revent
condensation, fill hydraulic oil reservoir to filler neck with approved hydraulic syste m oil. Refer to
Checking a
nd Filling Hydraulic Oil, page 2 88.
14. Test engin
e coolant antifreeze concentration to ensure it is sufficient to protect engine against lowest
expected t
emperature.
