Chapter 1 Ethernet Port Configuration
1.1 Ethernet Port Overview
The Ethernet ports of S6500 Ethernet Switch have the following features:
z 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet ports support MDI/MDI-X auto-sensing, and can
be configured to operate in half/full duplex mode or auto-negotiation mode to
negotiate the duplex mode and speed with other network devices and select the
optimal ones automatically.
z 100BaseFX-SMF/MMF Ethernet ports operate in 100M full duplex mode. The
duplex mode can be configured as full (full duplex) or auto (auto-negotiation), and
the speed can be set to 100 (100Mbps) or auto (auto-negotiation).
z 1000BaseX (GBIC)/1000BaseX (SFP) Ethernet ports work in gigabit full duplex
mode. The duplex mode can be configured as full (full duplex) or auto
(auto-negotiation), and the speed can be set to 1000 (1000Mbps) or auto
(auto-negotiation).
z 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports support MDI/MDI-X auto-sensing, and the
modes are 1000 full duplex, 100M half/full duplex, and 10M half/full duplex.
z For 10Gigabit Ethernet ports, the duplex mode can only be configured as full and
the speed can only be set to 10000 (10000Mbps).
The configurations of these Ethernet ports are basically the same, which will be
described in the following sections.
1.2 Ethernet Port Configuration
Ethernet port configuration includes:
z Enter Ethernet port view
z Enable/Disable Ethernet port
z Set description character string for Ethernet port
z Set duplex attribute for Ethernet port
z Set speed for Ethernet port
z Set cable type for the Ethernet port
z Enable/Disable flow control for Ethernet port
z Permit/Forbid the jumbo frame to pass through the Ethernet port
z Set Ethernet port broadcast suppression
z Set link type for Ethernet port
z Add the Ethernet port to specified VLANs
z Set the default VLAN ID for the Ethernet port
