Melter Installation
Melter installation includes mounting the melter and connecting the air
supply, the electrical service, and the hoses and applicators. Refer to the
next section, Fill System Installation, to install the adhesive delivery portion of
the hot melt system.
Obtain Customer‐Supplied Materials
Make sure the following customer‐supplied materials are available:
Power cord that meets applicable electrical codes and standards
Shielded, twisted wire for driver/pattern controller/timer and applicator
signal connections
Signal cable suitable for NEC class1 remote control and signaling
circuit for input/output connections
Items needed to connect a compressed air supply (refer to Connect
an Air Supply to the Melter in this section)
Select the Installation Location
Select an installation location that:
Meets the minimum recommended distance required below the melter to
allow for the routing of hoses and cables, shown in Figure 3‐1
Does not block the ventilation slots on the back of the melter and keeps
the melter in conformance with the ventilation requirements specified in
the Material Safety Data Sheet for the adhesive being used
Allows the operator to safely reach the controls and hydraulics and to
accurately monitor the touchscreen
Allows the operator to safely observe the level of adhesive inside the
adhesive bin and to add adhesive to the bin
Does not exceed the maximum allowable distance between the melter
and each applicator, as dictated by the power requirement of each hose
(refer to Appendix A, Calculating Melter Power Requirements)
Allows the melter to be safely removed from its mounting location
Does not cause the operator to be under the melter during normal
operation
Is away from areas with strong drafts or where sudden temperature
changes occur
Does not expose the melter to excessive vibration
