Configure the Electrical Service
Before installing the melter, make sure that the melter will not be overloaded
and that the plant's electrical service is rated to handle the power required by
the melter and the hoses and applicators that you plan to use.
Refer to Appendix A, Calculating Melter Power Requirements, for information
about how to calculate the maximum allowable hose lengths and applicator
wattages that can be used in your manufacturing application.
WARNING! Risk of electrocution! Install a lockable power disconnect switch
between the electrical service and the melter. Failure to install or properly
use the disconnect switch when servicing the melter can result in personal
injury, including death.
1. Select a power cord that meets applicable electrical codes and
standards. The maximum amperages of melters operating at a specified
voltage are shown in Table3‐1.
Table 3‐1 Maximum Amperage
Voltage (VAC) Maximum Amperage
200-240, 1‐phase or 3 phase
2 hoses/applicators: 18-20
4 hoses/applicators: 27-29
400/230, 1‐phase or 3‐phase
2 hoses/applicators: 20
4 hoses/applicators: 29
2. Remove the controls cover. Refer to Removing or Installing Covers in
Section 6, Maintenance, as needed.
