5. ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Check the oil level daily with the engine stopped.
If the engine has just been stopped and is warm,
wait at least 10 minutes to allow the oil to drain
back to the oil pan before checking. Wipe the
dipstick clean then check oil level. The level
should always be within the safe range on the
dipstick (Fig. 12). Add the proper grade of oil to
maintain the correct level on the dipstick. All
diesel engines are designed to consume some
oil, so a periodic addition of oil is normal.
WARNING
Touching a hot engine can cause serious
burns.
CAUTION
Do not overfill. Oil may be blown out through
the crankcase breather if the crankcase is
overfilled.
