2.8 Steering
2.8.1 General information
The BELARUS-892/892.2 tractor is equipped with hydrostatic steering control (HSC).
For the guide wheels to turn, a small effort (up to 30 N) is required to control the dosing
pump. The pressure required for turning is created in the HSC hydraulic system by a feed
pump driven by an engine.
If the engine is killed the feed pump will not create pressure and the HSC hydraulics will
automatically switch to the manual mode at which pressure required to make a turn will be created
by a dosing pump, for this reason it is required to apply considerably higher force (up to 600 N) to
the steering wheel for turning the tractor.
2.8.2 Steering wheel adjustments
The steering wheel has the following adjustments:
- height adjustment, along steering shaft axis;
- horizon tilt angle adjustment.
To change height positioning of steering wheel 2 (Figure 2.8.1) proceed as follows:
- unscrew chuck 1 by 3-5 revolutions;
- move steering wheel 2 to a necessary position;
- tighten chuck 1 with force of hand.
The range of the steering wheel height adjustment is 100 mm.
1 – chuck; 2 – steering wheel.

The steering column can be tilted and secured in 4 positions from 25° to 40° with a
pitch of 5°. To tilt the column pull handle 1 towards you (Figure 2.8.2), tilt the steering column
to a comfortable position and while releasing handle 1 wiggle the steering column in a lon-
gitudinal direction until it is securely fastened.
With the steering column secured in an extreme front position set the gear shifting
lever to the “Neutral” position, then move it to the extreme left position and holding it in this
position till the engine starts completely, start the engine. Then make sure the steering func-
tions correctly with the tractor unmoved.
