The energy (power) generated by the engine to drive the tractor, the machine on
which it is installed is retrieved from the flywheel through the clutch.
During operation, the engine provides automatic power control to maintain a constant
speed (set or nominal) using a speed controller mounted on the high-pressure fuel pump.
The main assembly units of the engine are: cylinder block, cylinder heads, pistons,
connecting rods, crankshaft and flywheel.
D-245.5C engines differ from D-245.5 engines in the design of the high-pressure fuel
pump, injectors, pistons, flywheel and the fuel injection advance angle.
3.1.1.2 Engine components
The engine, in accordance with Figure 3.1.1, consists of a cylinder block, a cylinder
head, a crank mechanism, a timing mechanism, as well as components and assemblies of
fueling, lubrication, cooling, start-up systems and electrical equipment.

Cylinder head 10 (Figure 3.1.1) is a cast iron, in the internal cavities of which there
are inlet and outlet channels shut by valves. To ensure heat dissipation, the cylinder head
has internal cavities in which coolant circulates. Posts, a rocker shaft with rocker arms, a
head cover, an intake manifold and cap 6 of cover 9 closing the valve mechanism are in-
stalled on top of the cylinder head. On the side of the fuel pump, four injectors are installed
in the head, and on the side of the alternator, an exhaust manifold is attached to the head.
To seal the connection between the head and the cylinder block, a gasket is installed made
of asbestos or non-asbestos fabric reinforced with perforated steel sheet. The holes for the
cylinder liners and the oil channel are edged with steel shells.
