3.1.3 External part of the engine cooling system
The engine cooling system is liquid, closed type, with forced circulation of coolant
from a centrifugal pump, thermostat. It includes cooling jacket, water pump, water radiator
7 (Figure 3.1.5) with steam outlet and compensation tube 16, oil radiator 2, connecting lines,
oil filter 4, fan, expansion tank 5, connecting hoses, clamps, drain cock 10, expansion tank
plug 6. The engine thermal mode is regulated using a thermostat. The water radiator of the
cooling system is ribbed tube one. Water radiator plug has steam and air valves.
The operating range of the cooling system is from 80 to 98°C. A short-term (up to 10
min) increase in temperature up to 100°C is allowed. The coolant temperature is monitored
by the coolant temperature gauge and the engine coolant temperature warning light in the
instrument cluster. The coolant temperature alarm is triggered between 102 and 109°C.
Installation of the external elements of the cooling system of the D-245 (D-245C) en-
gine is shown in Figure 3.1.5.
