2.13 Gear shifting
2.13.1 General information
BELARUS-892/892.2 tractors with basic configuration have a mechanical fixed-ratio
double-range gearbox, with a single, located under the operator’s right hand, range and
speed shifting lever with a mechanical increasing gear (GB 18F+4R). Against order BELA-
RUS-892/892.2 tractors can be equipped with transmissions of the following configurations:
- mechanical gearbox with a mechanical reducing gear (GB 18F+4R);
- mechanical gearbox with a synchromesh reducing gear (GB 18F+4R);
- mechanical gearbox with a reverse reducing gear (GB 9F+9R).
2.13.2 Shifting gears in transmission with mechanical increasing gear
Controls of the gearbox with the increasing gear are shown in Figure 2.13.1.
1 diagram of shifting between passes of increasing gear; 2 control lever of increasing
gear; 3 – range and gear shifting lever of gearbox; 4 – diagram of shifting between ranges
and gears of gearbox.
Figure 2.13.1 – Gearbox control
Gears are shifted with two levers: range and gear shifting lever of gearbox 3 (Figure
2.13.1) and control lever of increasing gear 2.
Required ranges, gears and passes of the increasing gear (slow-down pass “turtle”
symbol, speed-up pass “hare” symbol) are selected in accordance with shifting diagrams
4 and 1 as shown in Figure 2.13.1.
Ranges and gears are shifted with a single lever 3, hereby first you should engage a
range (1
st
or 2
nd
), then the lever shall be shifted to N position and the selected gear is en-
gaged.
Increasing gear control lever 2 shall stay in engaged (fixed) position during tractor
operation: backwards slow-down pass (“turtle”) or forward speed-up pass (“hare”). It is
permitted to hold the increasing gear lever in the neutral (middle non-fixed) position to ease
engine start-up under low temperatures.
