6-2 Matrix E1 Series (1G694-13) Configuration Guide
6.1.3 Process Overview: 802.1Q VLAN Configuration
Use the following steps as a guide to configure VLANs on the device:
1. Reviewing existing VLANs (Section 6.2.1)
2. Creating and Naming VLANs (Section 6.2.2)
3. Assigning port VLAN IDs and Ingress Filtering (Section 6.2.3)
4. Configuring VLAN Egress (Section 6.2.4)
5. Setting the host VLAN (Section 6.2.5)
6. Enabling / Disabling GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol) (Section 6.2.6)
Purpose
To assign switched network ports to VLANs, define new VLANs, configure port filtering according
to a VLAN list or untagged frames, and configure the GVRP function on the device.
Preparing for VLAN Configuration
A little forethought and planning is essential to a good VLAN implementation. Before attempting
to configure a single switch for VLAN operation, consider the following:
• How many VLANs will be required?
• What stations will belong to them?
• What ports are connected to those stations?
• What ports will be configured as GVRP-aware ports?
It is also helpful to sketch out a diagram of your VLAN strategy.
