TheKRONOSsupportshigh‐speedUSB2.0for
connectingtostoragedevices,suchasharddrives,
flashmedia,andCD‐R/RWdrives,aswellasclass‐
compliantUSBMIDIcontrollers.
USB storage devices
Youcansaveandloadsamples,sounds,sequences,
andotherdatatoandfromUSB2.0storagedevicesfor
backup,transferringtocomputers,etc.
NotethatHDRtracksmustbeplayedfromand
recordedontotheinternaldisk.Youcanbackthemup
toUSBdevices,however.
Themaximumsupportedcapacitydependsuponthe
formatoftheUS
Bdevice.WithFAT16format,the
maximumcapacityis4GB;withFAT32,themaximum
is2Terabytes(2,000GB).

wouldcontrollersconnectedtothe5‐pinMIDIjacks.

Whenthesecontrollersareconnected,theKRONOS
willautomaticallydeterminetheMIDIassignmentsof
thecontroller’spads1‐8,andmapthemdirectlytothe
KRONOSpads.

Hot-plugging
TheKRONOSsupportsUSBhot‐plugging.Thismeans
thatyoucanconnectordisconnecttheUSBcablewhile
thepowerison.
Note:Inordertousehot‐plugging,theUSBdeviceyou
areconnectingmustalsosupporthot‐plugging.

KRONOShastwoseparateUSB2.0ports,andcan
supportupto8USBdevicessimultaneously.Notethat
itdoesn’tmatterhowthedevicesareconnected;evenif
youusehubsordifferentports,themaximumis
always8devices.
USB Power
SomeUSBdevicesgettheirpowerfromtheUSB
connection.Thesearecalled“bus‐powered”devices,
andtheyaresupportedbytheKRONOS.
OtherUSBdevicesmayrequireaseparatepower
source,inadditiontotheUSBconnection;inthiscase,
you’llneedtouseanappropriatepoweradaptorfor
thedevice.
Thereisalimitationtothetot
alcurrentsuppliedtoall
connectedUSBdevices,asdefinedbytheUSB
specification.Ifthetotalcurrentconsumptionofthe
connecteddevicesexceedsthislimit,theKRONOS
maynotcorrectlyrecognizetheconnectedUSB
devices.Ifthishappens,anerrormessageof“USBHub
Po
w
erExceeded!”willappear.
Toavoidthisproblem,ifyouconnectmorethanone
USBdevice,pleaseuseaself‐poweredUSBhubinself‐

toproducesound.
