Introduction 1-1
1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
The Spectrumâ„¢ II S2-900 Series is a high-volume, in-line dispensing system that delivers high speed and
accuracy for today’s most demanding semiconductor package and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly.
This manual is intended primarily as a reference for process engineers and service technicians. Production
operators and those unfamiliar with Nordson ASYMTEK products may also find this manual useful as a
general introduction to the system. This section introduces the S2-900 Dispensing System and covers the
following topics:
• Supported Applications
• S2-900 Series Features
• S2-900 Series Overview
1.2 System Description
The S2-900 provides exceptional dispensing accuracy and repeatability, and is ideal for high-volume
manufacturing. The S2-900 dispenses precise small dots and consistent thin lines, coats and underfills in
hard-to-reach areas, has a small footprint that maximizes floor-space, and increases throughput. The
S2-900 performs with a wide range of fluids, processes, and substrates and easily integrates with jets and
valves from Nordson ASYMTEK.
The system utilizes Nordson ASYMTEK’s Fluidmove
®
software, the same industry-proven software
package used on all Nordson ASYMTEK dispensing systems. Complete recipes written on one machine
can be copied to other Nordson ASYMTEK dispensing systems within the factory and around the world.
Unique, automated set-up software prompts users at the beginning of production runs, making it easy to
set up and begin dispensing with less operator interaction.
1.3 Safety First
Operation of your S2-900 Dispensing System involves heat, air pressure, electrical power, mechanical
devices, and the use of hazardous materials. It is essential that every person servicing or operating the
dispensing system fully understands all hazards, risks, and safety precautions. Refer to Section 2 - Safety
for additional information.
WARNING! Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all fluids used with the dispensing
system. The SDS provides material usage instructions, disposal instructions, and
safety precautions.
