Glossary G-5
RFID: Radio Frequency Identification.
RTD: Resistive Temperature Detector. A highly
accurate temperature sensor consisting of a coiled thin
platinum wire covered in ceramic material and encased
in a 1/8-inch stainless steel tube. Found in Needle
Heaters, Heater Tooling, and some Dispensing Valves.
Used in place of a thermocouple.
Safe Z-Height: Safe Z Height is the height below which
the tip of dispensing head cannot go when moving from
one set of coordinates to another during operation.
Safety Data Sheet (SDS): Information sheet for the safe
usage of a specific material. It is provided by the
material manufacturer and is usually included in the
material packaging.
SCFM: Standard Cubic Feet per Minute. A unit of flow
of a liquid or gas.
SECS/GEM: SEMI Equipment Communication
Standard (SECS), SEMI Generic Equipment Model for
Effective Factory Automation (GEM). SECS/GEM is
the protocol used for linking several factory equipment
units together via a host computer. The GEM standard
defines useful conventions for designing the
communications interface on a unit of factory
equipment to improve operations with a host computer.
SEMI: Semiconductor Equipment and Materials
International. An organization that defines protocols for
the semiconductor industry.
Service Shutdown: The dispensing system is
completely powered down so that servicing can be
performed. When servicing electrical, pneumatic, or
hydraulic components and assemblies that make de-
energizing the whole system impractical, a second
person should always be present.
Service Station: The Service Station consists of a
dispense tile, tactile needle sensor, purge station and
scale.
Service Technician: Trained personnel responsible for
performing advanced system servicing procedures.
Single Axis Automatic Tilt: Provides angled jetting for
increased dispensing flexibility. Single-axis tilt is
programmable (in X or Y direction) and saved within
the Fluidmove recipe.
SMA: Surface Mount Adhesive. An adhesive used for
attaching chips to PWBs.
SMEMA: Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturers
Association. Established protocol for signal
communication between two or more different systems.
Substrate Heaters: A contact or impingement heater
tooling plate located between the conveyor rails. These
heaters can be located in up to three conveyor stations
(pre-dispense, dispense, and post-dispense). Used to
heat workpieces to control the flow and cure time of
dispensed fluid.
SVGA: Super Video Graphics Array. A video card that
produces high-quality color images at high resolution.
Syringe: A reservoir containing the dispensing fluid
that is usually attached to the Dispensing Valve.
Tactile Sensor: A sensor located adjacent to the Needle
Sensor that is used to calculate the Z-axis offset between
the Height Sensor probe and dispensing needle tip.
Tooling Air Regulator and Gauge: The Tooling Air
Regulator and Gauge controls air pressure for Stop Pins
and Lift Tables/Bar Clamps.
Underfill: The process of flowing epoxy underneath a
flip chip on a PWB to completely seal the solder bumps.
V: Abbreviation for volt as in VAC (Volts Alternating
Current). See also AC, DC.
Valve Air Pressure Regulator and Gauge: The Valve
Air Pressure Regulator and Gauge set controls the air
pressure that actuates some Dispensing Valves
(DV-7000, DV-8000, and DP-3000) during dispensing.
Valve: A device used to control or regulate the flow of
material from a pressurized reservoir, such as a syringe.
These devices include Valves, Pumps, and Jets.
Viscosity: Viscosity is a measurement of the flow
properties of a fluid. High viscosity fluids have a high
resistance to flow and low viscosity fluids have a
low resistance.
Vision Card: Computer card that receives video signals
from the Camera and performs fiducial image capture.
Vision System: Includes the camera, light source,
computer hardware and software, and the monitor.
Water Trap: The facility air supply may contain
moisture that can damage the dispensing system. The
water trap condenses this moisture before it enters the
dispenser pneumatic system.
Workpiece: Any surface, part, or element (usually a
PWB) that is being dispensed upon. Workpieces may be
installed in a carrier such as a lead frame or Auer boat.
X-Axis: Left to right movement of the Dispensing Head
in the dispensing chamber.
X-Beam: The apparatus that spans the width of the
dispensing chamber. The Dispensing Head is mounted
to the X-Beam and slides along it in the X-Axis.
Includes mechanical pulleys for the X-Axis cables.
Y-Axis: Forward and backward movement of the
Dispensing Head in the dispensing chamber.
Z-Axis: Up and down movement of the Dispensing
Head in the dispensing chamber.
