4.5 Opening the server
V CAUTION!
● Only for non-hot plug components:
Before removing or installing covers, turn off the server, all peripheral 
devices, and any other connected devices. Also unplug all power 
cables from the outlet. Failure to do so can cause electric shock.
● The housing covers must be replaced as soon as possible for 
purposes of cooling, to comply with EMC regulations (regulations 
regarding electromagnetic compatibility) and to prevent fires. The 
housing covers must not remain open for longer than 5 minutes.
● Follow the safety instructions in the chapter "Safety instructions" on 
page 31.
The server is accessible via three covers, see figure 5, that can be removed 
independently from each other:
1. Front cover, see "Removing the front cover" on page 45
2. Fan cover, see "Opening the fan cover" on page 102
3. Rear cover, see "Removing the rear cover" on page 46
You can remove the fan cover as such for accessing the fans directly. For all 
other tasks, it is removed together with the front cover.
