7.3.3 Configuring an SNMP Community
7.3.3.1 SNMP Security
Security in an SNMP community prevents unauthorized users from querying or changing the MIB variables. The
methods of providing security can affect how you configure the SNMP community and trap generation. The
three methods of providing security in an SNMP community are:
• Define the community access for the device as READ only, so that even if the device is accessed, values can-
not be changed.
inGenErrs The number of SNMP packets received with an error status of generr.
inTotalReqVars The total number of SNMP MIB objects requested.
inTotalSetVars The total number of SNMP MIB objects requested that were changed.
inGetRequests The number of SNMP Get Request packets received by the SBx3112.
inGetNexts The number of SNMP Get Next packets received by the SBx3112.
inSetRequests The number of SNMP Set Request packets received by the SBx3112.
inGetResponses The number of SNMP Get Response packets received by the SBx3112.
inTraps The total number of SNMP trap message packets received by the SBx3112
outPkts The total number of SNMP packets transmitted by the SBx3112.
outTooBigs The number of SNMP packets transmitted with a status of toobig.
outNoSuchNames The number of SNMP packets received with an error status of nosuchname.
outBadValues The number of SNMP packets transmitted with an error status of badvalue.
outGenErrs The number of SNMP packets transmitted with an error status of generror.
outGetRequests The number of SNMP Get Request response packets transmitted by the SBx3112.
outGetNexts The number of SNMP Get Next response packets transmitted by the SBx3112.
