1.16 Basic Provisioning of Cards and Ports
1.16.1 Introduction
Provisioning for any SBx3112 means to query and control the configuration database, and involves the follow-
ing:
• Provisioning Data - The provisioning data itself, which consists of:
• States - These determine whether the card or port can be placed in service and if so whether it can pro-
cess data.
• Attributes - These are the characteristics of the card or port, usually to optimize the processing of data.
• Management Configuration - These are all the settings that allow the SBx3112 to communicate to man-
agement interfaces, and have been described in Section 3.
The provisioning data is stored in the CFC and can be retrieved and backed up when necessary, usually dur-
ing a software upgrade, described in Section 5.
• Persistence - This is the ability of the provisioning data to survive changes such as a reboot of the shelf or
the removal of a card.
• Pre-provisioning - The user has the option of creating a card and having it in the database prior to insert-
ing the card.

User-Created Profiles The user can modify the AutoProv profile provided for each card type or
port type (called a managed entity). User-created profiles are also possible,

The NMS profile is displayed as an external profile with the SHOW INTER-
FACE command. If a port is de-provisioned at the NMS, the output for the
External Profile is set to None.
