7.7.5 Configuring BFD
This section describes configuration information, procedures, and commands for BFD.
7.7.5.1 Default Configuration
When an SBx3112 switch is initially booted up, all interfaces for BFD are disabled:
When BFD is being enabled for the first time, the default values are used.
7.7.5.2 Restrictions and Limitations
Enabling BFD may impact service if the remote peer is not also enabled. So this command provides a warning
and prompts the user for verification.
Note: To enable BFD without disrupting service, you can first SET BFD (described below) with a relatively
large Detection Multiplier (such 255) and then enable the service on both ends. After the protocol has
been established, you can set the Detection Multiplier to a smaller value. You can do the reverse to
disable it without impacting service.
Disabling BFD may impact service if the remote peer is enabled. So the DISABLE command provides a FORCE
option or a warning that prompts the user for verification.
7.7.5.3 Feature Interactions
As mentioned in 7.7.1, having BFD and a topology feature together is beneficial in that BFD will detect lack of packet
exchange in a single direction, as well as bi-directional failure, even when no physical layer fault is detected. When the
BFD reports this failure, it is treated as a physical link failure, and a topology feature is then activated to restore
network connectivity.
You can use BFD on an XE4 that is part of an EPSR ring, but the parameter values should follow certain guide-
lines for BFD and EPSR:
