7.5.5 Configuring RMON
This section describes configuration information, procedures, and commands for RMON statistics and history
collection.
7.5.5.1 Default Configuration
When an SBx3112 switch initially boots up, ports are disabled for statistics. RMON must be configured on an
interface in order to capture performance data for that interface. See 7.5.6 and 7.5.8 for configuration proce-
dures.
7.5.5.2 Configuration Guidelines
The RMONALERT command, which is based on Internet standards RFC2819 and RFC3273 (www.ietf.org), is
used to configure Ethernet statistics. See Tab l e 7-1 3 for specific statistics.
The act of enabling monitoring does not affect the administrative state of the interface. If monitoring is enabled
while the interface is disabled, no monitoring will occur until the interface is enabled with the ENABLE INTER-
FACE command.
Note the following on setting the rising and falling threshold values for the interface:
• Absolute will compare the cumulative total number of RMON statistics on the interface at the end of the
sampling interval against the threshold.
• Change will compare the number of RMON statistics on the interface over the sampling interval against the
threshold. Refer to figure Figure 7-13.
7.5.5.3 Restrictions and Limitations
The RMON feature applies to all cards in all shelves currently supported for which RMON is supported.
