Standing calf
This is an exercise for strengthening the calf
muscles and it is used especially for sports that
require jumping and sprinting. Performed with
a low weight and with the wedge under the front
part of the foot, it improves the flexibility of the
ankle.
Muscles used: soleus, gastrocnemius
Movement:
- position the barbell slightly lower than your
shoulders
- fit the discs symmetrically on the barbell pin
and block them with safety catches
- stand under the barbell and position it on
your trapezius, in line with your shoulders
- spread your legs so that your feet are in line
with your hips and your calf muscles in line
with the barbell
- unhook the barbell by rotating it counter
clockwise
- lift yourself up onto your toes by moving only
the ankles and keeping your legs straight;
then return to the starting position
- to increase the travel of the movement place
the wedge under your toes.
