6.6 Measuring Range and Measuring Distance
The measuring distance (distance between the end of the lens
barrel and the web of material) influences the size of the camera
measuring range. Basically, the following relationships apply:
The lower the measuring distance D, the smaller the measuring
range M
The smaller the measuring range M, the measurement is more
accurate (higher resolution)
6.6.1 Determining the Measuring Range
The required camera measuring range depends on the material
width and the maximum web position error (web position fluctuation
across the web running direction).
Single camera system
Fig.25: Dimensioning the measuring range for a single camera system
M = Measuring range
D
= Measuring distance
(distance material web - end of lens barrel)
D
1
= Distance material web – sensor level (D + 138 mm)
J = Maximum incoming web position error (to one side)
AB
max
= Maximum working width (maximum material width)
Determining the camera measuring range M:
M = (AB
max
+ 2 x J) x 1,1
