23.1 System Time Clock Synchronization via GPS Time
A Netclock interface is an option for the SYSTEM 3505.
The SYSTEM 3505units, as manufactured by Digitize, can now be upgraded or purchased with a
Netclock/GPS Master Clock interface, as manufactured by Spectracom. The Netclock unit is not
part of the package, and must already exist at the customer site.
Interface requirements:
SYSTEM 3505 – With the Netclock option installed in the SYSTEM 3505, the RS-485 Netclock
output is simply plugged in to the RJ connector, PORT #18 on the rear panel. The Netclock must
output Format #1 at either 1200 or 9600 BAUD. The SYSTEM 3505 will auto detect either of
the two BAUD rates. A “Disk” charge also applies when the option is added to a unit already in
the field.
NETWORKED SYSTEM 3505 - In a network of SYSTEM 3505 units, only the master
SYSTEM 3505 requires a Netclock interface. The correct time will be distributed via the Digitize
Network. To make sure that slave units sync the time correctly, 7 SET Menu, Slave option
“SYNC TIME” must be set to “YES” (factory default) to allow the master unit to sync the slave
time.
For a redundant Master head-end system, you need to purchase two Netclock options, one for
each Master SYSTEM 3505 unit.
Users connect the Netclock to a Slave unit, rather then the Master. In this configuration,
only that slave time will be effected. The “SYNC TIME” must be to “NO” on the 7 SET
Menu.
