Preliminary steps
▶
If the HDD module to be removed is combined into a RAID array, please
proceed as follows:
RAID level Procedure
RAID 0
CAUTION
RAID 0 provides no data redundancy.
In case of an HDD module is defect, all
data are lost!
RAID 1
RAID 5
Removing an HDD module from a RAID 1 or RAID
5 array will not result in data loss. However, the
removed drive needs to be replaced immediately
by an HDD module of the same or larger capacity
.
After replacing the HDD module, RAID
rebuild will be performed as a background
process, see "Performing a RAID array
rebuild" on page 131.
In order to permanently remove an operational HDD module that is part of a
RAID array from the server
, you first need to delete the array using ServerV
iew
RAID Manager.
CAUTION
All data on all HDDs in the array will be lost when deleting the RAID
array!
▶
Be sure to back up your data before deleting a RAID array.

For more information, see the "ServerView Suite RAID
Management" user guide.
▶
When working on a floorstand model, open the HDD bay cover, see
"Removing the accessible drive bay cover" on page
63.
