•Airbagsaredesignedtoinateonlyonce.Afteranairbag
inates,newpartswillberequiredfortheairbagsystem.
Iftheyarenotobtained,theairbagsystemcannotprotect
theoperatorintheeventofanotheraccident.Anew
systemwillincludeairbagmodulesandpossiblyother
parts.
•Thevehiclehasacrashsensinganddiagnosticmodule
whichrecordsinformationafteracrash.SeeVehicleData
RecordingandPrivacyandEventDataRecorders.
•Letonlyqualiedtechniciansworkontheairbagsystems.
Improperservicecanmeanthatanairbagsystemwillnot
workproperly.Seeyourdealerforservice.
ServicingtheAirbag-EquippedVehicle
Airbagsaffecthowthevehicleshouldbeserviced.Thereare
partsoftheairbagsysteminseveralplacesaroundthevehicle.
Yourdealerandtheservicemanualhaveinformationabout
servicingthevehicleandtheairbagsystem.
WARNING
Topreventpersonalinjuryand/ordeath,or
damagetoproperty,besuretofollowproper
serviceproceduresbyaqualiedperson.An
airbagcanstillinateforupto10seconds
afterthevehicleisturnedoffandthebatteryis
disconnected.Avoidyellowconnectors,asthey
areprobablypartoftheairbagsystem.
AddingEquipmenttotheAirbag-EquippedVehicle
Addingaccessoriesthatchangethevehicle'sframe,bumper
system,height,frontend,orsidesheetmetal,maykeepthe
airbagsystemfromworkingproperly.
Theoperationoftheairbagsystemcanalsobeaffectedby
changing,includingimproperlyrepairingorreplacing,anyparts
ofthefollowing:
•Airbagsystem,includingairbagmodules,frontsensors,
sensinganddiagnosticmodule,orairbagwiring
•Frontseats,includingstitching,seams,orzippers
•Seatbelts
•Steeringwheel,instrumentpanel,overheadconsole,
ceilingtrim,orpillargarnishtrim
•Innerdoorseals,includingspeakers
Yourdealerandtheservicemanualhaveinformationabout
thelocationoftheairbagmodulesandsensors,sensingand
diagnosticmodule,andairbagwiringalongwiththeproper
replacementprocedures.
Ifthevehiclemustbemodiedbecauseyouhaveadisabilityand
havequestionsaboutwhetherthemodicationswillaffectthe
vehicle’sairbagsystem,oriftherearequestionsaboutwhether
theairbagsystemwillbeaffectedifthevehicleismodiedfor
