Operation
Whenconnectingtoatrailer,switchtheSUSP/DUMPswitch,
locatedontheinstrumentpanel,totheDUMPposition,andair
willexhaustfromthesuspensionsystemloweringthetractor.
Thiswillpermitbackingunderthetrailerwithoutundueloading
ofsuspensionsystem.Aftermakingtheconnectiontothetrailer,
returntheswitchtotheSUSPposition,thenraiselandinggear.
Whendisconnectingthetrailer,lowerthelandinggear,
disconnectthebrakehosesandrearlightconnectorsfromthe
trailer,andpullthereleaseleveronthefthwheel.Slowlypull
thetractorforwardjustfarenoughtoreleasethekingpinfrom
thefthwheelandstop.SwitchtheSUSP/DUMPswitchtothe
DUMPpositionandpullthetractorawayfromthetrailer.
TheSUSP/DUMPswitchmustbereturnedtothedownSUSP
positionbeforeoperatingwithatraileroroperatinginthebobtail
mode.
FifthWheelOperation
WARNING
Topreventpersonalinjuryand/ordeath,or
damagetoproperty,alwaysfollowthefthwheel
manufacturer’sinstructionsforhookingand
unhookingaswellasslidingthefthwheel.
WARNING
Topreventpersonalinjuryand/ordeath,or
damagetoproperty,whenusinganassistantto
repositionaslidingfthwheel,thedrivermust
bereadytostopassoonasthefthwheelmoves
tothedesiredposition.Theassistantmustkeep
feet,handsandbodyclearofthevehicle’stires
andothermovingpartstopreventpersonalinjury
ordeath.Thedrivermustnotbegintomovethe
vehicleuntiltheassistantisclearandsignalsthe
drivertomovethevehicle.
FifthWheelSlideSwitch(IfEquipped)
Anoptionalfthwheelslideswitchmaybepresent.Thisswitch
allowstheoperatortoelectronicallyunlockthefthwheeltoallow
ittobemovedforwardorbackwardandrelockitoncethedesired
positionisattained.
Tounlockthefthwheel,pressinthetop
portionoftheswitch.Theswitchindicator
willilluminatesteadilywhenthefthwheelis
unlocked.
NOTE:Thefthwheelcannotbeunlocked
aboveapresetspeed(normally2mph[3
km/h]).Attemptingtounlockthefthwheel
atanyhigherspeedwillcausetheswitch
indicatortoashslowly(oncepersecond).Thefthwheel
lockautomaticallyengagesifithasbeenunlockedandthe
vehiclespeedexceedsthepresetvalue.
