wheelsifyouover-brakeforexistingroadconditions.Optimum
vehiclecontrolforexistingroadconditionswillbeprovidedas
aresultoftheABSpreventingwheellockupatspeedsabove
approximately4mph(6km/h).TheABScannotprovideany
betterbrakingandsteeringcapabilitythantheavailableroad
tractionwillpermit.Iftheroadisslipperyitwilltakelonger
tostopthanonadryroad.Steeringmaneuverabilitywillbe
similarlylimited.Vehiclespeedmustbereducedtocompensate
fortheextendedtimeanddistancerequiredtostoporslowthe
vehicleonslipperyroads.
Thewheelhubscarryexciterringsusedbyaxle-mounted
sensorstotransmitwheelspeedinformationtotheABS
electroniccontrolunitlocatedinsidethecab.Thecontrolunit
monitorsandcomparesallwheelspeedinputstodetermineif
anywheel(s)areabouttolock.Ifwheellockupisabouttooccur,
thecontrolunitcommandstheappropriatemodulatorvalveto
adjustairpressuredeliverytopreventwheellockup.

theinstrumentpanelindicatestheantilocksystemstatus.The
indicatorcomesonandthesystemgoesthroughanABS
self-checkoutsequenceeachtimetheignitionisturnedon.
Thesystemisworkingnormallywhenignitionisturnedon,
indicatorcomeson,thenashestwiceandremainsonfor
severalsecondsbeforegoingout.
Duringtheself-checkout,themodulatorvalveswillcyclearound
thevehicletwiceinthefollowingpattern:
1.Right-sidefront
2.Left-sidefront
3.Right-siderear
4.Left-siderear
AfaulthasbeendetectedintheABSifthewarningindicator
doesnotcomeonwithignition,doesnotash,failstogooff,or
comesonagainatanyothertime.
Ifover-brakingcauseswheellockuponthereardriveaxles
whileenginebrakingdevicesareinoperation,theABSwill
interruptanddisabletheenginebrakeuntilthelockupsituation
hasstopped.
IftheABSwarningindicatorontheinstrumentpanelislit,
consultyournearestInternationalTruckservicecenterfor
furtherassistanceinmaintainingandrepairingyourABS.

Brakejustthewayyoualwayshave.Applybrakesas
normaltostopintime.TheABSmonitorsthebrakeapplication
electronicallyandautomaticallycontrolsthebrakes,muchfaster
thanadrivercoulddobypumpingthebrakepedal.
Alwaysrememberthatyouarethemostimportantfactor
tosafeoperationofyourvehicle.Steerclearoftrafc,
pedestrians,animals,orotherobstacleswhileyouareinan
emergencybrakingsituation.Theantilocktractorandtruck
brakesystemwillallowyoutosteerthevehicleduringbraking
whileitcomestoafullstop.ABSisnotanexcusetotake
unnecessaryrisks.Alwaysdrivecarefullyandstayasafe
distanceawayfromthevehicleinfrontofyou.
