However,exposuretoexcessiveamountsofbrakematerialdust
maybeapotentiallyserioushealthhazard.
Followtheseprecautions:
•AlwaysweararespiratorapprovedbyNationalInstituteof
OccupationalStudiesofHealth(NIOSH)orMineSafety
andAppliance(MSA)duringallbrakeserviceprocedures.
Weartherespiratorfromremovalofthewheelsthrough
assembly.
•Neverusecompressedairordrybrushingtocleanbrake
partsorassemblies.
•Cleanbrakepartsandassembliesintheopenair.During
disassembly,carefullyplaceallpartsontheoorto
avoidgettingdustintotheair.Useanindustrialvacuum
cleanerwithaHEPAltersystemtocleandustfromthe
brakedrums,backingplates,andotherbrakeparts.After
usingthevacuum,removeanyremainingdustwitharag
soakedinwaterandwrunguntilnearlydry.
•Neverusecompressedairordrysweepingtoclean
theworkarea.Useanindustrialvacuumcleanerwitha
HEPAltersystemandragssoakedinwaterandwrung
untilnearlydry.Disposeofusedragswithcaretoavoid
gettingdustintotheair.Useanapprovedrespiratorwhen
emptyingvacuumcleanersandhandlingusedrags.
•Workercleanup.Washyourhandsbeforeeating,
drinking,orsmoking.Vacuumyourworkclothesafter
useandthenlaunderthemseparately,withoutshaking
them,topreventberdustfromgettingintotheair.
