Ifthecoolingsystemislowandneedstobetoppedoff,ensure
thatthecorrectcoolantandcoolantmixtureareused.The
coolingsystemshouldbelledwithapremixedcoolantora
50/50mixtureofcoolantconcentrateandwater.
CAUTION
Topreventcomponentdamage,becausehot
coolantexpands,donotoverllthecooling
systemwhentoppingoffthedeaerationtank.
OnlylltotheMAXllline.
Forthetop-offprocedurepleaseperformthefollowing
instructions:
1.Allowenginetocool.
2.Locatethedeaerationtank.
3.Removeventedllcap.
4.Usingthecorrectmixture,carefullypourcoolantintothe
deaerationtankuntilcoolantreachestheCOLDMAXline.
DonotexceedtheMAXline.
5.Installtheventedllcap.

Navistar,Inc.recommendsusingonlytheapprovedcoolantwith
thecoolingpackagesandwillnotwarrantthesecoolingsystems
thathavenotutilizedtherecommendedcoolant.
Thelabelonthedeaerationtankprovidesadditionalcoolant
/antifreezeinformation.ConsulttheEngineOperationand
MaintenanceManualforcoolantservicelifedetails.
Someenginesareorderedwithanoptionalcoolantlterthat
shouldbereplacedperiodically.
ELCequippedvehiclesuseonlywaterlterswithout
SupplementalCoolantAdditives(SCAs)asSCAsarenot
necessarywithextendedlifecoolant.Navistarrecommends
ELCduetoitseaseofmaintenanceandlowerlong-termcostof
operation.
CoolantConcentrationFreezePoint
Coolingsystemsshouldbecheckedtwiceayeartoensure
propercoolantwaterconcentrations.A50/50mixturecanbe
easilycreatedintheshopusingundilutedcoolantandwater,
anditwillprovidefreezeprotectiondownto-34°F(-36.7°C)if
nofurtherdilutionisexperiencedduringinstallation.
Concentrationsgreaterthan67%arenotrecommended.The
useofpremixedcoolanttomakeupforcoolantlosswillensure
theglycol/waterconcentrationsstayinbalance.
