1.Fifthwheeljawsmustbeopenedfully.
2.Tiltfthwheelbacktopreventbodydamagewhen
tractorisbackedundertrailer.
3.Blocktrailerwheelsandbesuretrailerspringbrakesare
adjustedandapplied.Neverchaseatrailer.
4.Makesurebrakehosesandlightcordsareclearofthe
fthwheel.
5.Backtractorsquarelyundertrailer,engagingfthwheel
jawsontrailerkingpin.Alwaysbackslowly,makingsure
trailerisneithertoohighnortoolow.Avoidbacking
undertrailerfromanangle.
6.Connectserviceandparkingbrakehosesandtrailer
lightconnector.RefertotheWarninglocatedinthe
Tractor-TrailerConnectionsinformation.Usea
three-pointstancewhenconnectinganddisconnecting
trailer.
7.Inspectfthwheeljawstobesuretheyhaveclosedon
trailerkingpinandthetrailerplateisrestingsecurelyon
thefthwheel.
8.Besurethecouplerreleaseleverisinthelocked
position.
9.Chargetrailerbrakesystem.Settrailerbrake,either
withthehandvalveortractorprotectionvalve.Pull
againsttrailerforanadditionalcheckofhookup.Donot
pullhardenoughtodamageorstraintheequipment.
10.Settractorparkingbrakesandfullyraisetrailerlanding
gear.RefertoBrakessegmentofthissectionfor
OperationofParkingBrakesandTrailerBrake.
11.Checkoperationofalltrailerlightsandcorrectfaulty
lights.
