Batterylifeandperformancevariesgreatlydependingon
dutycycle.Conditionssuchasshortrunsbetweenstarts,
lowambientoperatingtemperatures,usingbatterycurrent
withouttheenginerunning,andvibrationwillreducebattery
life.Batterylifeisalsoaffectedbytheconditionofinterrelated
components,suchasalternators,batterycables,connections,
enginestartability,andstarter.Tomaximizebatterylife,itis
importanttokeepelectricalcomponents,batteryboxes,andthe
engineintopconditionandtominimizeoreliminateelectrical
loadswhentheengineisnotrunning.
Batterylifecanbeextendedbykeepingthebatteriesfully
chargedatalltimes.Periodicallychargingthebatterieswith
abatterychargermaybeabletochargethebatteriesmore
completelythanthevehicle’salternatorincertainsevere
applications.Useabatterycharger(oatcharger)that
automaticallyreducesamperageorshutsoffwhenthebatteries
arefullycharged.UseofaMidtronics55-AmpPowerSupply
/Smart(Battery)Charger,ModelNumberPCX550,Part
NumberPSC550CCKIT(orequivalent),availablethroughyour
Internationaldealer,isrecommended.
Coldbatteriesresistcharging.Batteryperformancecanbe
improvedbyregularlyorevenperiodicallystoringvehiclesand
chargingbatterieswithanautomaticoatchargerfor8-24
hoursinawarmgarageduringthecoldwintermonths.
CAUTION
Topreventpropertydamage,donotallow
batteriestobecomeheavilydischargedand
exposedtosubfreezingweather;suchconditions
willcausethemtofreezeandbecomedamaged.
Yourvehicleutilizesmaintenance-freebatteries,whichwillnot
requiretheperiodicadditionofwater.Wipethetopsofthe
batteriescleantoavoidaslowcurrentowthroughthedirt,
resultinginalossofcharge.Besuretheterminalsareclamped
tightlyandthatthebatteryisclampedsecurelyinthebattery
box.
