NOTE:Deckplate(s)mayneedtoberemovedtogainaccess
tobatteryboxcover.
NOTE:Inspectbatteryboxfordamageandsecuremounting
ofbatterybox.Removebatteryboxcoverusing1/4turn
springloadedlatch.
NOTE:Checkthatbatteriesaresecuredandcasesarenot
brokenorleaking.Ensurecablesarefreefromdamage.
Topsofbatteriesandterminalsmustbecleanandfreefrom
foreignmaterial.Replacebatteryboxcover.
CabInteriorInspection
1.Safety/emergencyequipment:Priortoentering
cab,verifythatvehicleisequippedwiththeproper
equipment.Walkaroundvehicleandcheckthatall
stepsandgrabhandles,insideandout,aswellas
behind,aretightandclean.Useextremecautionand
maintain3-pointcontactatalltimes.
2.Doors:Checkdoorlatchesforpositiveclosing,latching,
andlocking.
3.Clutch/gearshift:Depressclutchpedal(ifpresent)and
verifytransmissionisinNeutralbeforeturningonstarter;
keepdepresseduntilenginereachesidlingspeedand
vehicleisinNeutral.
4.Oilpressurebuilds:Checktoseethatoilpressureis
buildingtoanormallevel.Engineoilpressuregauge
shouldbeginagradualrisetonormaloperatingrange.
5.Lowairalarm:Thelowairpressurealarmmaysound
immediatelyaftertheenginestartsbutbeforetheair
compressorhasbuiltupminimum55psi(379kPa)
pressure.Thelowairpressurealarmshouldstopwhen
theairpressurereaches60-76psi(414-524kPa).
Lettheairpressurebuildtogovernorcut-outpressure,
whichshouldoccurbetween115and130psi(793-896
kPa).
6.Accelerator:Depressacceleratorpedalandverifythatit
operatessmoothlywithoutanybindingorirregularfeel.
Removefootfromacceleratorandmakesureengine
returnstoidleimmediately.
7.Voltmeter:Checkthegaugetoseeifthealternatoris
chargingbetween12.5and14.5volts.
8.Steeringplay:Checkforsmoothoperation.Check
forexcessiveloosenessinthesteeringlinkages.The
steeringwheelshouldhavelessthan10degreesfree
play(approximately2inchesatrimof18-inchsteering
wheel).
9.Seats:Besureseatsarermlyengagedtoavoid
forwardorrearwardmovementwhenstartingor
stopping.Makesurethatseatsandtetherstrapsare
freefromdamageandsecuredtooor.
10.Horn(s):Checktoseethathorn(s)operateproperly.
11.Mirrors:Checkmirrorsforproperadjustment,damage,
cleanliness,andpropermounting.Checkoptional
powermirrorsandoptionalheatedmirrorsforproper
operationifequipped.
