Operation
ExhaustDieselParticulateFilterRegeneration
ThisvehicleisequippedwithaDieselParticulateFilter(DPF)
tomeetcurrentemissionsrequirements.TheDPFtraps
exhaustparticulatemattergeneratedbynormalengineusage.
Periodically,theenginecontrolsystemwillperformacleaning
ofthelter,knownasnormalregeneration.Thisprocessis
transparenttotheoperatorandoccursduringnormalvehicle
operation.
Insomecasestheenginecontrolsystemisunabletomanage
sootlevelsintheDPFthroughnormalregeneration.Whenthis
occurstheDPFindicatorwillilluminatesolidYELLOWonthe
electronicgaugeclusteradvisingthatactionmustbetaken.At
thistimethevehicleshouldthenbedrivenathighwayspeeds,
orpulledovertoperformaparkedregeneration(SeeParked
RegenerationProcedure).
Ifnoactionistakenduringthepreviouswarningstage,theDPF
indicatorwillbegintoashindicatingthatthelterisfull.The
vehicleshouldthenbepulledsafelyofftheroadwayandaparked
regenerationshouldbeperformed.
Ifthevehicleisdrivenbeyondtheinitialtwowarningstages,a
lossofengineperformance(derate)willoccur.Ignoringtheneed
foraparkedregeneration,whenrequired,canresultinawarning
forexcessiveexhausttemperatures,andarequirementtoshut
theengineoffandnotrestartituntiltheDPFhasbeenserviced
byatechnician.Itisimportanttoperformaparkedregeneration
whenrequired.Failuretodosocouldbemissiondisablingand
resultinthevehiclebeingtowed.

indicatorsandthecorrespondingproceduresthatmustbe
followed.
WARNING
Topreventpersonalinjuryand/ordeath,or
damagetoproperty,donotperformaParked
RegenerationwhenDieselParticulateFilter(DPF)
indicatorisONasthiswillcausetheengineto
losepowerandeventuallyshutdown.
Whenperformingparkedregeneration,make
certainvehicleissafelyoffoftheroadway
andexhaustpipeisawayfrompeopleorany
ammablematerialsorstructures.
Failuretofollowtheseinstructionsmayresult
inalossofenginepowerandvehiclespeed,
increasedexhausttemperatures,andanaccident
orre.
Therewillbethreelevelsofindicationthatthevehicle’sexhaust
lterisaccumulatingsootandneedstobecleaned,eachwith
anincreasingurgencyforaction.
NOTE:ALevel1indicationmaydisappearoraLevel2may
reverttoaLevel1,ifthevehicleisdrivenonhighwayat
highwayspeedsforanextendedperiod.Thisprocessof
autoregenerationoftheexhaustlterisactivatedwhen
theengineloadisincreasedasaresultofhighwaydriving
athighwayspeeds.IftheDPFindicatordoesnotreduce
inlevelordisappear,aParkedRegenerationmustbe
performed.
